Özet: Abstract Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted the global aviation industry, leading to the cancellation of major international conventions, uneven lifting of travel restrictions, and the reestablishment of connections between nations and global trade networks. These disruptions have raised concerns among experts regarding the revival of business travel. This study aims to assess the impact of COVID-19 on the aviation industry in Somalia, focusing on the challenges faced, opportunities available, and strategies for recovery. Methods: This study was conducted using a cross-sectional design that takes into account the information on the impact of COVID-19 from to 2019-2020 in Somalia. The samples were gathered from Somalia aviation workers following the census method through the distribution of survey questionnaires to key stakeholders in Somalia's civil aviation industry through Google Forms. Means and frequencies were used to describe the variables, and data were presented using graphs, charts, and frequency tables. The chi-square test was used to evaluate whether there was a relationship between the variables (p-value <0.05). Results: The survey indicated that 97.2% of the aviation sector was affected by COVID-19, with significant impacts on income, professional losses, flight delays, and a decrease in passenger numbers. About 77.8% of respondents reported that the sector had recovered from the pandemic’s effects, while 22.2% indicated ongoing challenges. A statistically significant association was found between recovery and factors such as age, professional experience, and monthly income of aviation employees (p < 0.05). Conclusion and Recommendations: The research findings indicate that the aviation industry in Somalia has not yet fully recovered from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it’s imperative that the government and leaders in the aviation industry take concerted action to mobilize available resources and devise comprehensive strategies to address the current challenges and facilitate recovery.
